Are visual materials as effective in teaching English adults as in teaching young learners?

I would say that visual materials can be extremely effective for adult learners.  Obviously a lot depends on how you make use of the materials.  A good starting point for using images and photographs as part of an adult ESL  class would be to investigate tips and advice for making powerpoint presenatations.   The following links have some simple advice about this:

the key point to remember is that for adult learners the use of visual matrerials is most effective when reinforcing/reviewing ideas concepts that have been previously studied or worked on in a course.
