Teaching children the family tree but not allowed to write - help?!

I am a language assistant in France and I am not allowed to do any writing with the pupils until age 10. However I sometimes find this difficult; at the moment I am teaching the family tree but they are not picking up the vocab quickly because they cannot write down words next to images etc. Does anyone have any ideas of how to teach the family tree without writing?

      Hello there

Have you tried with flash cards? For both pictures and letters that you can scramble for instance, it's fun for Ls that age.

      Hi there,

Claire, you are right, flash cards are the best way to teach the word clearly.

      Flash cards with songs (family)etc...

I hope, it works for you...

If it's acceptable in the local culture and school policies, you could take in a number of photos of your own family (direct and extended); and maybe encourage Ss to bring in their own pics too.

I think if you know why they are not allowed to write, it might help find an alternative method.

I mean, are they not allowed to write at all?  Or not allowed to write in the new language?  If they and you are allowed to write in their language, you can explain and write what you need but speak in English.

If they are not allowed to see writing in the new language then flashcards won't help.  I think you need to be clear on the details of the Policy.

I really am struggling to understand the possible reasons behind the Policy though.
