TeachingEnglish
spellings of a word
Submitted by ila gautam on 7 January, 2012 - 18:06
Hi all
while teaching i came across three spellings of a word. Two of them are available in different additions of Oxford dictionaries. Third is there on internet. The word is used for a person who lives in a hostel-
'HOSTELER'
'HOSTELLER'
'HOSTLER'.
So I request you all to please look in the matter and guide me for appropiate spellings of this word.
With regards
ila

The first two seem fine to me. British English, Aussie English, etc, double the 'll' in similar words (eg. traveller) while American English uses one (traveler), so it makes sense for hosteller to have two variations as well.
