Short-term EFL courses in UK
Submitted by habbodini on 21 September, 2009 - 15:04
Hi everyone!
I was wondering if you could help me - I've just started as a language assistant in Germany and I had a student in a LK class (around 17 years old) ask me whether there was any way for him to go over to the UK for a few weeks in the school holidays to learn English. I've had a little look around on the web but could anyone suggest any short term programmes for an intermediate learner to participate in?
Thanks in advance!

Hi
First of all - welcome to Germany! I was an assistant in Bavaria a few years ago and now I teach at Trier University! :-)
Regarding English courses in the UK. I can only recommend the school I used to work at: GEOS London. It's in West London and they have short-term and summer school courses for children and adults. At 17, I guess your pupil will go into the adult classes, but they're usually nice small groups and organise quite a lot of evening activities etc so that they practise English socially too.
I think that a LK student will be quite good, though ... so I'd check the level again. If they're generally strong (in comparison to the other students who might be learning ESL in London!) then perhaps you could look at summer schools offered by universities for young adults. I know that Bath Uni do a good one, and Swansea University have a good ESL department so you might like to look there too.
