I would say, it depends on exactly what you are required to plan ... but perhaps you could plan the outline of a project (want you want them to do with a particular topic) and let them choose the topics themselves?!
For example:
SONGS - they could write new lyrics to a song tune they already know, talking about a certain topic. Depending on how creative you/they are, you can also film a video to go with the song.( I would suggest a slower pop song than some of the dance tracks in the charts! Otherwise you'll find it hard to get enough words in to get the message accross, I think some of the Beatles tracks might work well, but I doubt whether 7 year old wil know the tune!)
INFO Brochure - they can design & write an informative leaflet on a topic to give to other children - e.g. things to do in the local area, important things to know if you're new to the school, historical personae, etc. (This works really well on topics like drugs, but I'm not sure if you want to tackle that with 7 year olds!)
FASHION DESIGN - give small groups "target age groups" for either "boys" of "girls" and templates of clothes items, and tell them to design full sets of clothes for summer & winter for that target group. (I remember doing this in school when we were 10 and it was great fun) Depending on a topic you choose, you could also change the target groups to, e.g. people living in different countries (where the pupils could research what the weather is like so they know what kind of clothes are needed), or ask them to include a note on what material the clothes should be made of (so they can research materials & properties, e.g. cotton, plastic, rubber, lycra, etc)
I'm quite jealous now I've written this - these projects sound a lot of fun and I wish I could do them!
Hope you enjoy the ideas!
