      Motivating adult learners

      Hi everybody.

I was just wondering if you could help. I am going to teach adults, I know that consistency in teaching is very important, and although I am not a very consistent or systematical person I know, I should provide my students with some kind of system of "marks" but not marks. If you know what I am trying to say. Some kind of systematical feedback, evaluation. With children at school its easier, as there is a grading system. Do you think that it works with adults as well? DO you have any other suggestion or experience? Something that is more relaxing. Like Snickers or Kit Kat (Just kidding) thing. I am just looking for any ideas... thank you.

When an adult signs up for a course, they know they're going to be assessed, otherwise how will they know if they did well? Another thing you can do is group tasks which pit groups against each other; they'll be motivated to try hard by the simple fact that nobody wants to loose.
