Hello Everybody,
I have recently taken up a training profile in my organization wherein the very first task assigned to me is improving the verbal and written English Skills of some of the resources. I have briefly worked as a soft skills trainer for a small group in the past due to which I don't have much idea about the group segregation of students at the organizational level.
What I need to understand is shall I be forming groups of students having similar english speaking skills or of students with different calibre in English.
I shall sincerely appreciate your suggestions....
Thanks and Regards,
Parul

Dear Parul,
For the training sessions I would suggest grouping people according to their spoken English level. You can use the Common European Framework as a guide to do that. (http://www.coe.int/T/DG4/Linguistic/CADRE_EN.asp there you can find a synopsis of it and the complete text)
Then you can plan some activites to be carried out among people with different levels because that situation is what they encouter in their daily working lives. For example, you have three groups with different levels, after some training sessions you can shcedule a meeting for the three groups together. You help them get ready for the meeting in their groups and then, they hold it all together. You can record or videotape them and then give them feedback.
I've done this many times and it was very useful.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Mercedes

Hi,
I dont believe in segregating students as it hurts their egos! ..esp.lly if you are dealing with male sts.
Instead divide them into groups of mixed abilities where they develop a sense of camaraderie and help each other.
Set goals for them to reach and thus create a spirit of healthy competition too.It works, but change the groups for every different assignment or task.
