Funny words for easy teaching
Submitted by NOVOTNIK MIHÁLY on 5 December, 2010 - 14:33
When I was student I had some problems with listening, because of the same pronunciation of different words. I've congregated some words, having different meaning with almost the same pronunciation. In my opinion the result is pretty funny, but interesting. They are:
"I was seeking for the sea king, since the sea king was sinking I stopped seeking for the sea king and I was just thinking about the sinking sea king".
If you find it interesting and first of all useful, do not hesitate use it.
Best Regards, M Novotnik

They're indeed funny. I think a technique for understanding words that are pronounced the same is to analyse the other words around them,
for example; 'sea king' and 'seeking' may sound the same but if somebody starts the sentence with "I was" they cannot follow it with "Sea King" unless they add a "the", and if the sentence starts as "I was the" it doesn't make sense at all to follow it with "seeking".
Just be careful with the age group you are teaching, using words that sound alike can really help when teaching meanings, but can also confuse lower-level students who might have trouble keeping up with the differences.
