Teaching English to people who want to acquire it is one of the greatest things that you can do as a teacher but everone can be a teacher. The purpose of this forum topic is just to encourage everyone to be open in teaching people who want to learn the language. Grammar, structures, foundations of learning it can be an easy task if you have the willingness to teach with your heart. As a teacher, you are not building towers for your learners but instead you are building their future.
Jean Jacques Rousseau's concept can be a good motivator "Child Centered Teaching". The idea is not focusing on children's only, what I want to say is that use this concept to better understand your learners. Teachers deal with different types of learners, different outlooks towards learning and the best way to cope with that is know your learners by journeying and learning with them. "Walk your Talk" make them feel you are with them and ready to GIVE A HAND whenever they need you as a teacher, as a person who they lean on for learning and a guide for reaching their goals. After all what teachers want is to see there "kids" be the person they want them to become.
A story will summarize this topics. An old man was with Peter in the gates of heaven together with others. Peter being the keeper of the key will not allow anyone to pass unless that person will be able to narrate or enumerate the things he had done on earth. A man in coat and tie told Peter that he is an engineer who was able to lead people in building greatest infrastructures that the world ever had. Another, said he was a Doctor that cured a lot of people. Then there were scientists, businessmen and a lot more. the when all 20 people had done narrating, the last man had the chance to talk. He straightly headed to front of the crowd. Started to stare at them and all wonder and focus their attention to him. Then Peter interrupted, "you, what have you done on earth that will qualify you to enter this great gate of God? he asked. The old man replied "I don't have any to narrate or enumerate but the things I've done on earth, but I will be proud to say that" everyone listen very carefully "I made all these people around you. I taught them how to become the person they become on earth. With my whole heart I made them the way they're known on earth". Contemplate on this and I'm sure you'll be able to see the wisdom in it.
