Definite Article
Submitted by zohidjon on 25 January, 2012 - 20:50
Sometimes during the lesson students ask about exceptions of using definite article the. For example: Countries: The Ukraine, City: The hague, Countries with more than two words: Great Britain... and other exceptions. I have some ideas about them but they aren't scientific. Does anyone know about their origins?

We do not use (the) with names of places but we use it with Republic, Kingdom, States ect
