Comma usage
Submitted by zomodachi on 27 April, 2010 - 07:41
Hello.
Was just checking the BBC's resource for comma usage and these two examples came up:
I hate beefburgers but I love sausages.
I hate curry, but I like Thai food.
Surely these are the same, right? Shouldn't there be a comma in the first sentence too?
This is probably just an oversight and I've been looking at it too much, but it's is driving me crazy.
Please help.

You are very much right in your observation. There should be a comma in the first sentence, after beefburgers, because we are essentially talking about two different thoughts.
Great! I'm not going totally mad then.
