      Chores Activity

      Hello,

I'm a new teacher and new in the forum. Recently I've been working with fourth graders and I've been working with them the present simple and continuous along with the topic of Chores.

However, now that I hade to put the present continuous in practice and use it with the chores I do'n't really know what to do to make all the children participate and practice in an activity. I was wondering if some of you can give me advices or tips as to what kind of activity should I do.

They are fourth graders, their native language is Spanish so their level of English is just starting to develop.

      Thanks in advance!

      P.

Write the names of different household chores on cards (i.e. wash up, tidy room, hoover living room, clean kitchen, feed rabbits etc). Split the class into two teams and get each team to stand at opposite ends of the classroom.  Show one group one of the cards, and they then have to mime what is written on the card. Then the other team has to guess what they are doing, and ask using the present continuous i.e. "Are you washing up? Are you cleaning your room?". The other group then reply "Yes, I am washing up" or "No, I'm not cleaning my room." Then swap. It went down a treat with 5th graders in Germany!
