Active learning is when learners take more active role(s) in class than teachers, such as class discussions, think-pair-share activities, collaborative learning groups, student debates, and games.
could you give me some hints on how can I provide useful context to my students? and how can i build confidence in my students ?
thanks for your reply
I find that there's confusion about what the word active means. Some people associate it with the sport & energy meaning, so it's similar to energetic and exciting.
But in language teaching I think it normally refers to attentive, thoughtful and involved (cognitively) learning. So to me, active learning includes all the points Amjaad mentioned, but could also include things like quiet reading, reading and highlighting or noticing language, active listening byhaving an aim before you start, completing exercise sheets, etc (Amjaad's "think-pair-share" might cover these) - but not just sitting back and listening to a teacher lecture.
