Please see below a call for papers from the BRAZ-TESOL National Convention.

All presenters must be BRAZ-TESOL members, and must register for the convention before submitting a proposal.

Obs: Workshops, papers and talks at BT conventions are usually conducted in English; however, proposals for presentations in Portuguese will be considered.

      Dear all,
We'll have the pleasure to have Lucy Crichton in our language institution next Friday (Feb 5th). She'll be delivering 2 sessions in the afternoon. The audience will mostly consist of our 26 teachers but we have also invited other schools/teachers. As we still have available seats, we'd like to extend the invitation to you all. It'll be free of charge.
      Sessions:
1- Please Understand Me! A True Teen RealityThis practical workshop will look into the teen’s real world, their worries and their aspirations and give teachers more tools to truly understand them, creating stimulating and motivating classes that also help these young people not just intellectually but physically and spiritually too.

2- The Student’s Imaginative Journey - Why it is so important?
It’s time to let go of ready made images that limit our student’s magination and be brave enough to tread new ground. We need to start to think beyond letter and form if we want to lay solid foundations for our students to become interested and engaged in learning. From beautiful literature to the sensorial world and back, this workshop will be interesting for teachers who want not only to teach English but at the same time enrich their student’s lives.

      Hi everyone,

Both sessions were really worthwhile! Lucy Crichton is one of a kind! She made us sing, move and interact!

The first one ('Please understand me! A true teen reality') was really thought-provoking! She told us to be firm but understanding; to get to know our teens' reality but not to try to please them all the time. Teens do ask for rules and limits.

Actually, the second one ('The student's imaginative journey - why is it so important?') was much more focused on younger learners. Basically, Lucy highlighted that we should use sights, sounds, smells, tastes, textures and 3D in our lessons. The good point is that all of those are for free!!! I fully agree with her there! In my institution, we have e-boards in every single classroom but we should never let our lessons become e-board centred!!!

How about you all? Do you have problems dealing with teens/kids? What do you do to overcome them? Do you use technology in the classroom?

That's all for now. Looking forward to 'talking' to you all soon.

      E-hugs

      Karla
