      Welcome to our free teaching resources based around the London 2012 Games. There are lesson plans and activities at different language proficiency levels on themes such as the Olympic and Paralympic sports and values. Each week we will add a new resource.

      In this lesson students learn about the history of the Olympic Games and practise the present simple tense and the third person singular -s ending.

      Why isn’t my favourite sport included?

      In this lesson students learn about the range of sports that now feature in the Olympic and Paralympic games and those that don’t. They learn what it takes to have a sport selected and why some sports are dropped. They make a case for the inclusion of a sport that currently doesn’t feature.

      My Olympic and Paralympic heroes

      Not everybody wins Olympic and Paralympic gold medals, but they can become famous anyway. This lesson discusses some special people who took part but didn’t win. It encourages students to find and exchange stories of their own Olympic heroes.

      Olympic and Paralympic quiz

      This lesson provides students with an opportunity to practise both present and past forms and revise question words by introducing them in an Olympic and Paralympic Games quiz, and then designing questions of their own. Before the start of this class, learners should be familiar with many sports disciplines, including athletics events.

      What do students know about the Olympic and Paralympic Games? Do they know how they first started, and what sports are represented? This lesson gives students the chance to learn about the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and to test their knowledge with a 'Factfile Quiz'.

      Know your values

      To what extent do teenagers know the values which are associated with the Olympic and Paralympic Games? This quiz introduces them to the key values, and invites them to choose a course of action for a range of situations. At the end of the quiz, the students can see which values are the ones that they most typically demonstrate.
