      Focus
The provision of training to English Language teachers in using the internet in teaching, and a supporting website.

      The project
This ground-breaking project is helping English Language teachers and students throughout Hungary to make better use of the internet in teaching and learning. It is supported by a web site (www.webenglish.hu) which has been enormously successful. As a result:

      • More and more teachers of English routinely make use of the internet in teaching
      • Professional links between teachers of English and other professionals, e.g. librarians, have been strengthened.
      • Quick and easy access has been provided to ELT materials available on three British Council and one BBC website, including a new structure based on the headings in the Common European Framework. The site has received over 100,000 visitors since its launch in October 2006.
      • Over 500 teachers in Hungary have been trained.

The project is strongly supported by the Hungarian Ministry of Education and Culture, who contributed considerable financial resources.

      What the stakeholders say

"I am writing to you from Pécs. I find the WebEnglish site very useful because I can find everything in one place. Here are five examples of how I use it: I get methodological guidance on the site; I read articles in the online journals and magazines; I have used the Cambridge Learner's Dictionary through this website; I have used a role-play which is related to the topic of school life, which I found on this site; I look at what training events are going to be held".
