The project
This project started with a group of 10 lecturers from the English Department of the Philological Faculty, Ss Cyril & Methodius University, as a result of their expressed need for professional development in the area of teaching and assessing academic writing.
The British Council responded readily, by providing a British consultant in academic writing who came to Macedonia and worked closely with the team in defining their needs and the approach that the project would take, and implementing the project.
The project resulted in the development of a four-year syllabus in academic writing, and a range of innovative and stimulating teaching, learning and assessment resources. These are now being used very successfully, and have led to clear, verifiable, improvements in students' levels of academic English.
What the stakeholders say
"I believe that the training offered by the British Council has greatly influenced the professional life of teachers; at the same time, it has given many young people who study English an excellent opportunity to advance their language skills and competence. In short, a very gratifying experience for all who participated in this project."
