The project
In this project the British Council delivered English language and professional skills training to thirty staff of the Ministry of International Communication. It was funded by the UNDP.
The targeted staff were liaison officers, external relations officers, assurance/control officers and reporting officers. The need to develop their capabilities came from their increased dealings with donors, counterpart and foreign partners. More generally, the project aimed to increase productivity and morale, and save time and money.
Two types of assessments were conducted on the staff targeted, a training needs analysis and a language assessment. These demonstrated the need to develop a range of skills, including reading skills, public speaking and presentation skills, the language of meetings and seminars,
report writing skills, business English and general English.
The training was delivered by teachers provided by the British Council in 2007 and 2008.
What the stakeholders say
- "Before they took this course, they have no confidence in themselves. They couldn't communicate confidently although they had many training courses in other institutes. But the British Council training enables them to listen, write, and speak confidently".
- "Now I am planning to make another contract with the British Council, to organize another course for other group." Capacity building project officer UNDP/MIC
