EU Accession Skills training for Turkish government departments

      The project
The Ankara University European Research Institute aims to provide training to civil servants working in Turkey's ministries. All participants work in the EU accession departments of these Ministries and are involved in the development of the preparation of relevant chapters for their ministries for Turkey's EU accession process.

These challenges involve a high level of English language skills.

The British Council helps the Institute by delivering two three-month English language courses per year. The training takes place part-time, with participants attending two classes per week.

This training focuses on English language skills development relevant to the EU accession process. In particular, course participants develop a range of practical skills related to formal report writing, presentation and speaking skills. Course participants are assessed on report writing and presentation skills.

More than 200 officials had undergone this training, as of October 2008.

      What the stakeholders say
"Thanks for not only teaching us how to make a good presentation, but also, maybe more importantly, showing that teaching and learning might be so enjoyable."
      Arzu Baykal (Course Participant)
