      Mobile Devices in the Classroom

Students have reacted well to the devices, but is this disrupting the classroom management or could we change the way we deliver learning?

Hi Jonathan, Seems a bit odd to use these devices in the actual classroom! Seems a bit like buying a tent and putting it up in your bedroom! What kinds of things are you getting students to do with them? I think with any new gadgets in class, they create a bit of hubub from students because it's new and novel, but once they settle down and become a normal part of class the management aspect will be less of a problem. best Nik Peachey | Learning Technology Consultant, Writer, Trainer

I think that the mobile device in the classroom has the possibility of giving the student a learner voice. Until now there was no way that students could shout their frustrations from the hilltops, they were expected to absorb the education given to them and to have no critical voice as to how this was done. With the mobile phone, students have the possibility to show unprofessional behavior. Teachers are concerned that they may be set-up, pushed into situations where they react out of character and that this behaviour is then posted on the internet for all to view.

Perhaps mobile phones in the classroom will have a positive effect on teacher professionalism?
