We are now receiving applications for the 2011/2012 Hornby Scholarship. Brazil has a tradition of sending strong candidates who not only succeed academically in their MAs during the year they spend in the UK, but invariably return to make an important contribution to the local and national ELT community in Brazil.
Candidates should:
· Have successfully completed an undergraduate degree course equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in the UK (certification must be provided as part of each candidate’s application)
· Have at least 5 years’ hands-on and direct experience as an English language teacher/teacher trainer (as opposed to experience only in a management role, such as co-ordinating policy or running a school)
· Have been involved in some sort of developmental work as trainers or managers
· Have attained an overall minimum Band score 6.5 on the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), with no less than 6 in any of the categories.
All candidates must indicate their commitment to take time out of their career to pursue the programme.
The Universities participating in the scholarship programme for 2011/2012 are renowned centres of ELT. The five universities hosting scholars this year are:
• University de Lancaster
• University de Leeds
• University College, Plymouth, St Mark and St John (Marjon)
• University de Warwick
• University de Birmingham
If you meet the requirements above and are interested in applying, please download the guidelines for candidates and the Hornby Scholarship application form here.
