Dear Hanoi ToTs

Well, it's Friday afternoon and our week together is almost at an end.

Rebecca and I hope you have found the workshop interesting and useful. We have certainly enjoyed working with you again - and reading all your reflections on Phases 1-3 (I hope to respond to these separately later today).

So, now for your final task. We would like you to spend a little time to reflect on the past week, and in particular how you feel about the process of developing your workhop plan on "Developing Oral Skills". Try to do this over the next few days while it is still fresh in your mind.

Rebecca and I look forward to reading your posts.

Best of luck with your workshop planning and materials development and of course with the delivery of your 3 day workshop next month.

      Davide

The first week of our phase 4 has passed quickly but still remains as tasty food for my thought.

First, it is a well-sequenced workshop with a right amount of scaffoldings that helped us confidently build up a training plan by and for ourselves. A major impact of its logicalness will always be made in our minds every time we plan a training session.

Next, our effective cooperation brought about a lot of valuable ideas for the plan. I do appeciate every of my colleagues' comments, their opinions and their contrubutions.

What I also greatly value is the problem tackling and solving skills that we learned from our trainers. They were always very imediate and generous in giving us solutions or helping us find a way our for every problem arisen during the workshop.

Last but not least, one of the biggest "achievements" we got from the week is the gift from BC - the original books. They will definitely take a lot of our time but also be a great helper in our professional development if we are able to absorb them all.

I also have a suggestion. Would it be better if we made a well-considered group separation before putting our hands on the planning sessions? Should we choose a leader for each group who will co-ordinate group members and distribute work among them? You know, it's much easier if we meet long days all and work together during the training week. But when the week ends, we leave apart with our own work and duties, we need a person who connects us as a group.

      Dear all,

I quite agree with Hanh's suggestion. It's a good idea to work in that way because we can save time and get big results.

And one more suggestion is that we can invite one of the excellent teachers from the workshop who can help us to give the demonstration. Trang and I are working in the same day and both of us are not good at demonstrating the lesson. Is that OK?

      Please give us a hand.

The week has passed so quickly and now when being back to my normal teaching life I feel a great gratitude to all of you.

First, my thankyou goes to the BC with Rebecca, Davide, Mai Hoa and Hanh for your enthusiasm and the high quality of the workshop. We highly appreciate the way you facilitate the whole project, especially the way you coordinate to conduct phase 4, which, from my view, requires lots of your energy as well as your thoughtfulness.

I am also grateful to all of the participants for your being so nice, so fun and so creative. I learn a lot from you, too. Loan, you've got a magical storytelling skill. Lien, Phong Lan, Hanh, you are really effective trainers. I try to copy your elicitation skills when working with teachers.  And many more useful techniques I have seen in your performance and presentation. Thanks, Trang, Ngoc Lan, Lan Anh, Le and others.

Hope we can maintain the contact for many years to come

      Dear All,

The seventh training workshop has been over with a "physical" outcome, which acts as an action plan for each of us. Most of this was contribution by joint effort of our master trainers :)

Again, this workshop was very well-sequenced, and I especially liked the idea of starting off by reviewing the three phases with factors of sucess and also things in need of improvement. These will go along our training job whenever it is the case. I hope by now I have been equipped with some key (yet far from sufficient) skills to function as a trainer.

I also value the facilitating skills and timely reaction ability of the master trainers, which show your flexibility. What I learn is as a MT, you have to sometimes stand back and approach the problems from a different angle so as to overcome it. Reaching concensus among tough trainees has never been an easy thing. I will certainly have to practice myself more toward this.

The open learning and sharing atmosphere was also an important key to the success of this workshop, I must admit.

However, I have one concern regarding the allocation of time among training parts. While I am aware of the importance setting the outcome, as well assessment and others, I believe that we should allocate some more time for planning, and working out the details of it. It seemed to me that many of us found it quite rush when it came to the mini workshop, as well as the following up part. I also share the idea of having a group leader to cooperate things when we are a part.

I look forward to seeing you all.
