This is a space for Malaysian EFL students and professionals engaged in the Digital Stories for Literature Project, but it is also open to comments from all our Reading Group members.
The teaching and learning of literature is a challenge to many teachers and students in Malaysian schools. The classroom routine task of explaining and interpreting literary texts often ends up in more teacher talk, leaving students bereft of any personal learning experiences. In an effort to breathe new life into the literature classroom, literary texts, such as short stories and poems, are transcribed into digital stories. ‘Digital Stories for Literature’ is a space for both teachers and students to share and showcase their creativity through their personal interpretation of the texts, making literature more relevant and meaningful to them.
Digital stories designed and developed by secondary school teachers in Malaysia can be viewed at Digitalstories4elt
These stories are available for use and suggestions are welcomed.

Dear All
First of all, I would like to congratulate Jayanti on this wonderful project. I had the fortune of attending her presentation at the IATEFL Conference in Brighton a month ago and I was really impressed by the originality of her idea, the support she received from her Minitry of Eduation in Malaysia and, above all, by the videos her teachers have already produced.
I am really glad we are able to offer this space for her initiative here in the Reading Group at TeachingEnglish and I hope teachers in Malaysia and beyond find it a place to post their creations and discuss the poems, stories and images with other readers and teachers around the world.
Both Jayanti and I are very excited about this collaboration :)
These are the direct links to some of the videos already produced by Malaysian teachers. We hope you enjoy them and we look forward to your comments. More links soon.

Literature is one of those indispensable materials for teaching language as it provides the learners with the context by means of which they can get the chance of studying grammar and extending vocabulary simultaneously and when the learners have the option to "share and showcase their creativity through their personal interpretation of the texts, making literature more relevant and meaningful to them" which is the aim of 'Digital Stories for Literature' studying literature texts will be fun for leaners...This great idea is certainly appreciated by all the learners.
Special thanks to dear teachers in Malaysia...

Very nice project
Good luck
Dear All
Just a question: who are the authors of the poems?
And a request: would the teachers who produced the videos tell us a little bit about how you created them? That would be really interesting indeed :)

a good attempt , but here in should be improvised in areas such as : pronunciation . narration is a bit too fast and rather not properly linked to some pictures shown.
First of all, I would like to congratulate Mozita for completing the project.
Overall, the poem is delivered quite well. The pictures/video used are suitable for the text. However, the narration is lacking of intonation and maybe a background music should be included with the narration.
That's all. Thank you.

Salam to all,
First of all, I would like to congratulate her with her project. It was a good effort in delivering ideas to the students of what the poem is about. It was a good attempt, however there was a part where the sound effect from the video had drowned the voice of the narrator. Overall, it was a good video with appropriate choices of pictures to show the sufferings and joy of the persona.

First of all, it was a good presentation and I think you have put a lot of effort to produce that marvelous video. You have came out with good images to convey the meaning of the poem but I think the only problem is the wording has distracted the view of the images. I suggest the wording should be put at the bottom so that the images could be seen clearly.
Thank you.
