We are planning to expand our English language activities to achieve greater impact across Brazil. We currently have offices in Brasilia, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and are not looking to open new offices, but we do wish to expand our activities to encompass states and municipalities where we do not have a permanent presence and would particularly like to increase our visibility in the following cities: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Recife, Salvador, Fortaleza, Belo Horizonte, Natal, Curitiba, Cuiabá, Manaus, Belém and Porto Alegre.

To achieve this, I am delighted to be able to announce that we will be inviting selected individuals to help the British Council achieve greater impact by joining a network of ELT Partners. We will be able to offer them the following conditions:

      • Reimbursement of reasonable expenses related to participation in agreed ELT events, including Braz-Tesol every two years and at least one other ELT event per year.
      • Regular guidance, briefing and training by the British Council, using both online media and annual briefings F2F.
      • Occasional invitations to receptions, seminars, openings and other events (e.g. from honorary consuls, UK Navy Ships, universities, business partners etc).
      • Reimbursement of communication expenses (against invoice) up to R$100 per month, when incurred on British Council activity.

We are looking to identify energetic and influential individuals who are:

      • fluent in English.
      • employed by a third party as a teacher of English, with at least 3 years’ experience in the field. Commercial experience preferable.
      • have a track record of participation in ELT events or similar, or other evidence of commitment to own professional development
      • available to travel occasionally to events (with expenses paid by BC), including at least one briefing per year (on BC products, services and standards).
      • able to maintain an up-to-date database of key ELT stakeholders, including potential contacts for teacher training contract work (e.g. at private sector schools or language institutes) or CSR investment, as well as potential clients of online learning programmes (such as large businesses, professional associations etc.)
      • prepared to visit and follow up with local government officials, including, but not limited to, Secretaries of Education and those responsible for Teacher Development in the state sector.
      • committed to abiding by British Council Code of Conduct, including Equal Opportunities & Development (EOD) Policy.
      • willing to submit all appropriate documentation (invoices etc for reimbursement, plus reports on ELT events attended, contact details of stakeholders met with etc).

If you are interested or know anybody who might fit the profile, candidates should submit a CV WITHOUT PHOTO (containing full contact details) together with a 300-word statement of interest, saying why they believe they would be well-suited to the role.

Note that this is neither a job offer nor a promise of a future employment contract between the British Council and the partners.

E-mails and attachments should be sent to graeme.hodgson@britishcouncil.org.br by 5pm on 16th August. Selected individuals will be invited for a telephone interview by end of August.
