In a recent programme we heard about ways that teachers can develop their English skills and their confidence. This is important because teachers often don’t like to speak English in class.

Keith Kelly is very well known to many people in the world of CLIL for running the www.factworld.info website and factworld@yahoogroups.com discussion list, as well as speaking at conferences around the world on the subject. But who is he and what insights into CLIL can he offer the hardworking teacher?

In the first article I wrote for this guest writer spot, I looked at all the basic questions we can ask about being an English language teacher trainer, educator or mentor.
In a previous article, I emphasised the importance of checking understanding in the process of teaching new structures and lexis, particularly through the use of concept questions.

In the first of these articles, Content and Language Integrated Learning, I gave an introduction to this field. In this second article I will look more closely at how CLIL is realised in the classroom and suggest a framework for planning CLIL lessons.

Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) has become the umbrella term describing both learning another (content) subject such as physics or geography through the medium of a foreign language and learning a foreign language by studying a content-based subject.
