      The British Council Romania EWoW project was set up in 2003 with endorsement from Romania’s Ministry of Education and National Centre for Vocational Education and Training, and consultancy from the University College of St Mark and St John, Plymouth, UK.

      The British Council Romania’s Rights in Deed Textbook Project was set up in 2000 with endorsement from the Ministry of Education.

      The English for Tourism Project, Venezuela

      In an effort to improve the national tourist industry, the Venezuelan Tourism Ministry decided to award certification to personnel who meet its established standards of service.

      The Assessment in English Language Teaching Project, Ukraine

      This project focuses on the assessment of learning outcomes in English in Ukrainian schools, in support of the Ministry of Education and the Independent Testing Centre's project which aims to bring Ukraine in line with European standards.

      The English Language Examination Reform Project, Slovakia

      British Council Slovakia was asked by the Slovak authorities for help in creating a national school leaving examination for English.

      The English Examination Project, Russia

      During the first phase of this project, as a result of a joint initiative of the St Petersburg City Department of Education and the British Council, a new model of school leaving exam for English was established in St Petersburg.

      The STEP Project, Mozambique

      The British Council, in partnership with the Mozambique Ministry of Education and the University of London, managed a major 5-year British Government-funded project to improve the quality of English Language teaching in Mozambican schools.

      The Secondary Writing Skills Project, Macedonia

      The Bureau for Development of Education (Ministry of Education) in Macedonia expressed a need for professional development of teachers in the area of teaching and assessing writing skills as part of a major reform of the examinations system in the Macedonian secondary schools.

      The University Academic Writing Project, Macedonia

      This project started with a group of 10 lecturers from the English Department of the Philological Faculty, Ss Cyril & Methodius University, as a result of their expressed need for professional development in the area of teaching and assessing academic writing.

      The CRADLE Project, Ecuador

      The government of Ecuador wished to make the teaching and learning of English in its schools more effective, and asked the British Council to help it implement a major new project: Curriculum Reform and Development for the Learning of English (CRADLE).
