The Vietnam English Teacher and Trainer Network (VTTN) Project

      In 1999 the British Council conducted a review of the provision of both pre-service (PRESET) and in-service (INSET) English language teacher education in Vietnam.

      The INSETT Project, Russia

      This British Council-managed project was launched following a request from the Russian authorities for help with improving the effectiveness of the in-service training system for English teachers.

      The English for the Future Project, Middle East

      In this far-reaching project, Ministries of Education in 8 countries in the Middle East region identified a common policy priority: the improvement of the teaching and learning of English. They asked the British Council to help them meet their objectives.

      The Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) Project, Latvia

      The Ministry had just introduced English at primary level and wished to make sure its cadre of teachers throughout the country were brought up-to-date with the latest ideas in teaching young learners.

      The Pre-Service Teacher Training (PRESETT) Partnership Project 2002-06, Latvia

      The Latvian Ministry of Education wished to improve the quality of pre-service teacher education across Latvia, and asked the British Council for help.

      The WebEnglish Project, Hungary

      This ground-breaking project is helping English Language teachers and students throughout Hungary to make better use of the internet in teaching and learning.

      The Teachers' Association Project, Georgia

      The project came into being when a number of prominent teachers of English in Georgia approached the British Council to ask for help with the creation of a Teachers' Association.

      Teaching English to Heterogenous Classes & Teaching English to YLs, Czech Republic

      The British Council's professional development projects Teaching English to Heterogenous Classes and Teaching English to Young Learners were developed in response to demand from teacher trainers (pre-service and in-service) in the Czech Republic for professional development in these two areas of language teaching.

      English for Teaching, Teaching for English (ETTE), Central and Southern Asia

      This major project was set up by the British Council following discussions with ministries of education in the 7 participating countries.

      The Tocantins ELT Project, Brazil

      The State Government wished to upgrade the teaching of English throughout the State, and asked the British Council to work in partnership with the Secretariat of Education to design and implement this ambitious project.
