      The British Council was invited by the Department of Education and the State Council for Educational Research and Training to improve the levels of English teaching and learning in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi.

      The English and IT for Security Project, Yemen

      The Yemeni Central Security Forces and the British Embassy in Yemen shared the conviction that better skills in Information Technology and the English language among Yemeni administrative personnel would be the key factor in the much-needed modernisation and internationalisation of the Yemeni security sector.

      The Vietnam English Teacher and Trainer Network (VTTN) Project

      In 1999 the British Council conducted a review of the provision of both pre-service (PRESET) and in-service (INSET) English language teacher education in Vietnam.

      The Open Learning for English Teachers (INSET) Project, Uzbekistan

      The Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education of Uzbekistan identified the improvement of in-service teacher training in higher and secondary specialised/vocational education as a policy priority and invited the British Council to be a key partner in reforming the national INSET system.

      The Assessment in English Language Teaching Project, Ukraine

      This project focuses on the assessment of learning outcomes in English in Ukrainian schools, in support of the Ministry of Education and the Independent Testing Centre's project which aims to bring Ukraine in line with European standards.

      The Post-Graduate Certificate in Teacher Development Project, Ukraine

      The British Council-managed project was launched to ensure that Ukraine's ELT community understands the change in the learning and teaching paradigms advocated in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

      The Singapore Teacher Development Partnerships Project

      The British Council in Singapore has been involved in large scale in-service training for the Ministry of Education for many years, but recently the two parties have developed a new and complementary partnering approach which allows for deeper, more sustained engagement with primary and secondary school teachers.

      The English for Work and Study Project, Saudi Arabia

      In this major project the British Council responded to priorities expressed by the Saudi Arabian government in relation to the preparation of young Saudis for the workplace and for study.

      The Textbook Project, Russia

      This major project, which was based on a partnership between the British Council and the Russian Ministry of Education, has had a far-reaching effect on English language teaching and learning across Russia.
