Blog post 1: New year, new students, new blog

I wrote previous posts in this blog, but that was when I was experimenting with blogging, trying to see if blogging has any place in my teaching career. Long before that, I wrote a number of articles on teaching spoken English that explain the most useful teaching techniques I’ve used in my career. My older blog posts were simply variations on those articles. It seemed like a waste of time to say the same things in different ways, so I lost motivation to keep on blogging.

These posts, starting right here with “Blog Post 1″, will have a different focus. These posts, which I intend to write over the next 12 months, will illustrate my teaching in a new job teaching junior high school and high school students in China. I am hoping this blog can now serve as a kind of “window” into my classroom, so teachers can “enter” my classroom and see what I’m doing, why I’m doing it, and what results I get with my students. If I succeed, this should be a very useful tool for any teacher who wants to reflect on the teaching process and the way students can successfully learn to speak English in the classroom.

If you think this is a good idea, leave a comment. If you do NOT think this is a good idea, leave a comment anyway! (And tell me why you do not think it’s a good idea!) If other teachers do like this blog and comment from time to time, this can become a community of teachers where we can all learn and grow and improve our teaching together.

and you should definitely be active and share your experiences! Teachers from different parts of the world are surely interested in experiences of a teacher in China. I, myself, am curious to see if Chinese students have similarities between Turkish students or not. Good luck!

I am a new blogger. This blogathon is my first experience as a blogger and I'm not sure I like it yet :-) I would have liked to add photos and illustrations - but can not find a way to that here. Anyway, I wish you luck with yours and will try to read it as often as I can!

      Hello teacherjoe,

This sounds great! I think it would be very interesting to share things about our classrooms and teaching. The best part would be learning about different cultures in different countries.

I'm looking forward to reading your new posts.

Good luck from a Turkish teacher from Turkey!

CoffeeAddict, your blogger name reminds me so much of the hundreds of coffee addicts in my faculty room where I teach in Israel.  What an epidemic it has become here!
