Most of the educational reforms in Chile have lead to a clear improvement of the teaching of English as a foreign language in the classroom. The first educational reform opened the path to a new manner of teaching in the classroom, the majority of the teachers have understood the importance of this first reform and its attempts to use new materials with the students. I remember clearly the day of the textbook and the cassette tape of "Go for Chile" and others. 

In 2010 a new reform of the teaching plans will be launched nationwide. This is one of the ultimate challenges for Chilean EFL teachers, thus it gives new emphasis to the listening and speaking abilities, which have been kind of postponed by a much more grammatical method. The new available textbooks for students and teacher books are quite remarkable. They are a great opportunity for applying a communicative effective teaching. Teacher´s books include a step by step guide in all of the activities of the book. They introduce the concept of pre, while and post activities method, this ensures a much more organized way of teaching our students in the entire educational system -specially in the public school and private subsidized schools.
