To Be or not to Be (modern).

      Hi There,

Here's a passage of my modern Hamlet version for teens. Lots of music is supposed to be used in the play.

      A. Scene V. Hamlet receives a message from his father.

HAMLET:  What do I do to ignore them behind me?

Do I follow my instincts blindly?

Do I hide my pride from these bad dreams?

And give it to sad thoughts that are maddening?

      SMS sound.

Oh, a small message from my dad-

He says that he is very sad,

That evil Uncle told his secret

To Army people! How could it be?

He asks revenge, to punish Uncle

For all his tricky nasty things!

      Ophelia comes in.

OPHELIA:  Oh, dear Hamlet? How are you?

You are so sad…And what is that?

HAMLET:  Please, leave me honey. Don’t put your nose into my money!

OPHELIA: Oh, you are so rude, I see no love,

I’ll tell my dad that you are mad!

Ophelia goes away angry and upset.

Hamlet call his mother on his  mobile...

I strongly believe that music and acting are means motivating students to learn English.

If you are into making up stories or poems, we have something in common.

      Regards,

      SoniaM

      Dear Marina,

I'm happy that you have put attention to my play.

      Here's the beginning of it.

      PRESENTATION

      A-Dear audience,

To your attention, our modern, 2010 year rock-opera of the famous William Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet.

B-This is a cruel story of revenge. Be ready to cry, tremble and suffer with our main characters.

And here they are – (music 1: Sysyphus - Part One 1:08 Pink Floyd. Pause the music when characters speak. And start it again from the beginning when it is short.)

The old king of Denmark!  Hamlet’s father, honest, generous, kind and a bit absent-minded...He doesn’t know what a surprise is waiting for him in a view seconds.

OlD KING: No, I don’t know about that.

      A.  Gertrude - queen of Denmark, Hamlet’s mother! Still beautiful, calm, practical and rather naïve.

GERTRUDE: Mirror, mirror, tell me so,’ You are the most beautiful of all!’

B.Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.  Young, proud, intelligent, sensitive and decisive and indecisive.

HAMLET: I ask why, but in my mind

            I find I can’t rely on myself…

      A. Ophelia, Polonius’s daughter, Hamlet’s girlfriend, charming, incredibly sensitive and romantic.

OPHELIA:  Hello gentlemen!  I ‘ve had a dream about the prince on a white horse.

      B. Polonius, the minister,Ophelia’s father, dishonest, narrow-minded, suspisious, not very clever.

POLONIUS: It’s me. Don’t trust them, don’t trust anybody!

      1. Laertes, Polonius son and Ophelia’s brother, ambitious, decisive and brave.

LAERTES: I am. You will remember me!

      1. And at last, Claudius, Hamlet’s uncle, arrogant, aggressive, ambitious, mean and evil!

CLAUDIUS: Ha-Ha-ha! Scared? Not yet?  OK, relax by now.

      A. Scene 1.  Elsinore Castle. A Nasty Surprise for the Old King.

OLD KING: What’s the matter? How dare you! I am the king, don’t touch me!

MILITARY MAN 1:  You never served in the army, your majesty!  We’ve learnt  your family secret!

MILITARY MAN 2: Come with us, Sir!  Army will make you a real man, Sir!

MILITARY MAN 1: Hold him tight, let’s go!

OLD KING: No. no… Leave me alone! Help, help!

Song ‘You in the army now’ . Gertrude is  running  after him, then stops.

      GERTRUDE: Darling, darling… I am alone, I am alone, I am alone…

      B. Scene 11. Elsinore Castle. Gertrude meets Claudius.

      To be continued...

      Best Regards,
