Some Thoughts in TEFL Training, Beijing

Make the teaching/learning interesting and at the same time making sure the Ss learn something. That is the ideal class that I would like to have. Apparently I still need more training.

There are two extreme cases I’ve seen so far: one is that, Ss enjoy the class and have fun from the starting to the end but eventually they learn nothing; the other is that, Ss feel bored and the effect of teaching/learning become zero. I’d better be careful on the balance.

In every teaching plan I made for demo class, I put in speaking and listening practice. Language learning, in my opinion, should start from these two activities. Maybe advanced class is an exception.

In the training sessions I picked up so many mistakes that I made in classroom teaching. The self-awareness for a teacher is sharpened along the time of practicing. Learning from mistakes can be way of turning negative into positive; and it could be a painful process. However, I think it worth the effort. Teaching is a challenging job to me, always.
