      The snow brought us closer!

Dear fellow bloggers, I have been absent for some days now. The thing is here there is rarely ever snow but these past few days the winter pressed so hard on us that schools are closed, children are out making snowballs and we teachers are drinking warm tea and enjoying ourselves as well :)))

Two days ago we came to school and snow started slowly falling. No panic, it seemed as if it was nothing when suddenly a blizzard came. My school has no central heating, every classroom has just a big stove on wood so it started to be quite cold in the big room. My fingertips turned numb, the wet sponge wasn´t my best friend and children started shivering a bit.

A glimpse on the snowflakes through the window "Wanna put on your jackets? It is starting to be cold." They didn´t complain. However it didn´t do much good, the stove is in the corner of the room, far away from the desks for the warmth to reach us "What do you think we go nearer to the stove?"

We took our chairs and formed a cosy circle around the hot brick "fire monster" and started reading. All the writing activities planned for that day were easily replaced with a story I found in the textbook. An old-fashioned atmosphere of storytelling and friends gathered around the fire reminded me of my childhood in girl scouts and camp, evenings with guitar and singing. My pupils were reading and listening, smiling, warm and cheerful they became very talkative and it turned out to be a wonderful idea to continue.

"Could we do this again Miss Ana, even when there is no snow?" They liked it, wonderful!

I think of organizing it in a Reading circuit and introducing it into my regular schedule. Sounds good? :)

You could call your reading around the stove time "the snow circle"!

Keep warm and let those good ideas keep cooking!

The "Snow circle" good idea, it will certainly make us remember how it all began.. I love storytelling.

I will suggest to them that we start inventing stories. It would help express their imagination. What do you think?

Singing around the stove is as much fun as storytelling!

It seems that this snowyweather is going to last.. any more ideas what we could do while sitting in our warm circle? :)

...for your brilliant improvisations. You have just confirmed how adaptable teachers are-and the best thing is that, more often than not, these impromptu lessons turn out to be better than some carefully planned ones!

Do it dxplorer, because there is also no school for me today (Split - you will know hahahaha). Find a good one and make them feel "at home". It is the most wonderful thing to see them truly enjoying doing something with us teachers :)

Improvising and changing lesson plans sometimes really does do the trick! Children are not always in the mood for what we have planned so we must addapt to create the best possible learning environment. :)

Thanks for the nice comment, greatings from snowy Croatia! :)))
