With advanced learners I like making listening a bit more difficult!
At the back side of their notebooks we made a section called "The Journalist Pages".
While listening they catch the main point, write down topic sentences as if they were journalists.
That involves several skills at the same time!!
- comprehensive listening
- critical thinking (to determine what is important)
- writing
- and while writing listening for new information (as the text goes on)
It is not easy! But they enjoy it a lot because they compete in who will do it better, who will catch more!
Than they inform us on what they wrote, recreate the story, retell the facts.
As they play journalists the logical assignment after it is - to write the article! So they sum up what they have listened to!
I believe this is an activity they will certainly use one day when they will be catching notes at university lessons :)

Dear partner nice point ;) At least they try to manage it and I love watching them while struggling;) Cool!
Of course, things can´t always be easy! They have to face a challenge! And this is really challenging! I remember me as a consecutive translator, catching the main point of my speakers as they continue speaking, it is very hard but develops lots of skills!
They have to make an effort and it works! ;)

Great ideas ! I wanted to print it but the school had no money. Than I used the school pinboard insted of a newspaper, it is our Newsboard and they pin their articles on the board for everyone to read ;)
