Well I must share this experience with you. Parents are some times so difficult that they compel you to teach in the regular rote manner.
I've been taking classes for young learners an institute. I had developed the entire program for the young learners focussing on the key skill areas like listening, speaking, reading and writing. The children were extremely interested and enjoyed coming to the class. I made sure that each and every child is comfortable and is not feeling threatened. Regular writing tasks based on the classroom activities were given to the children and children loved it. But much to my dismay, the parents seemed dissatisfied ! They complained 'you are not giving enough homework? (they couldn't see their child free at home!!)
'Why are you not taking (rote) grammar lessons? .' My son's copy is not regularly checked! Despite having spelling mistakes you have given him a good remark'.I was bombarded with series of questions. There were some noisy students in the class but I delt with them in a different way. Their parents came and suggested that I should feel free to cane them!
Gosh! All these incidences take away the spark and enthusiasm from us. I was so confused as to who I was teaching the children or the parents!!.Even if we try to bring a change in the teaching methodology Parents won't let us do and result-ROTE LEARNING.
