      World in the classroom

We’re living in a global village without boundaries. While I’m writing this post, at the same time I’m chatting with one of my friends who lives in Australia. People are interacting more and they need each other more than they did in the past. Collaboration and inter-dependence are key words of today.

I’ve come across many international collaboration opportunities and I’ve benefited a lot from these opportunities. Thanks to these opportunities, we as teachers of the world could work together. I’m going to write about these opportunities and  my experiences in short. In my previous post, I wrote about LLP of European Commission. The other collaboration opportunities that I experienced are as follows:

Etwinning: It’s my favourite platform to contact with other teachers and carry out internet-based projects. A project in which I collaborated with 19 teachers from all Europe was awarded eTwinning Certificate. Our aims were to make students develop linguistic, technological, socio-cultural competences for our students' personal autonomy, recognize the importance of English language learning as a tool for communication, increase the intercultural knowledge and multilanguages, make students know about recycling issues and environmental problems as well as taking care about our natural setting and enjoy while learning. It’s also a part of Comenius Programme and you can find partner schools for a Comenius Project.

Globalgateway: It’s the best online resource where you can collaborate and carry out projects with schools from all over the world. I’ve found some of my Comenius partners from this platform.

Epals: It’s a global community where you can connect your classroom with another classroom in any part of the world. You can also discuss educational topics, carry out project-based activities and much more on this platform. I connected my classroom with a classroom in Montana, the USA. It was a great experience for my pupils to share e-cards, postcards, letters, e-mails with their friends on the other side of the world. Choose a project. Find a classroom. Collaborate!

Wikispaces: Wikispaces is also a perfect online platform where you can carry out projects. See "The Say Hello to World Project" and the slides. You'll see the hello! letters sent by students from Virginia, the USA to my students.

I hope you’ll also like and make most of these online resources.

Our slogan must be "teachers without borders".

      Great post!

Lots of groups I haven't heard of yet. I have had some trouble with groups who want to collaborate but can't get set up. Very time consuming for me.

      Thank you Bulent.
