      I envy the puppets!

Yes, it's really true. Because, kids prefer to talk to puppets! When Dr. Diane Hicks suggested using puppets to teach English, I remember grumbling "Why didn't I think of that before?" Kids may hesitate to talk to an adult. But, they never refrain from talking to a puppet. Because, puppets are warm and close friends of kids.

Using puppets is a great idea to teach English to kids. It increases kids' motivation and encourage their creativity. They talk to their puppets, sing, play, dance with them. You don't have to buy puppets. You can create them with your students. Then, let kids give a name to their new friends.

Here are some useful sites to learn more about using puppets to teach English: Puppets in Teaching English, ESL Drama Games, The Use of Puppets in the Early Childhood Classroom, Using Puppets to Teach Conversation, How to Teach the English Alphabet With Puppets.

Now, let kids talk to their puppets even if you'll be jealous of them!

I agree with you when you mention that puppets are powerful communication tools in classes and if you are working with very young learners, they are "a must" in your tool box.

While I was teaching kindergarten and 1st graders, I used puppets in different ways. Here in my blog , I mentioned some tips in using puppets effectively. If you could have a look, I'd be happy.

      Hi Özge,

Yes, you're right. I think 4th and 5th graders love puppets, as well. I especially use finger puppets for them. I think educational fun is a must for young and old alike.

      Hi Hayriye,

Thanks for your post. There are many different ways of using them. What I like most about using them is you can be flexible while using in the classes.
