I guess it's 2011 and we're on the road to 2012. We should walk shoulder to shoulder with time. When I first decided to use ICT in my classes, the question was "Can kids cope with it?" and the answer was simple "I don't see why not." And, I can’t help saying that some kids are better at using technology than I am.
When I started using ICT in my classes, I started looking at teaching English to kids from a different angle. Kids love playing games, listening to songs, dancing, watching cartoons and being active. They can use interactive learning tools in the classes. This helps them learn both English and ICT. There are many internet sites where you can find a lot of fun online activities and resources. These are my faves:
http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/ Includes games, songs, stories, various topics, and printable material.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/digger/ A lively schools website covering English, Maths and Science at Key Stage 1 and 2. Includes interactive stories and a personalisation activity area. (Also good for CLIL which I'm going to mention soon)
http://www.ictgames.com/ This site provides educational ICT activites linked to the English National Curriculum.
http://www.teachingideas.co.uk/ A highly praised set of on-line resources which teach children about different aspects of the Internet.
http://www.learninggamesforkids.com/ Teach while kids play games!
http://www.english-4kids.com/ Games and activities for ESL kids!
http://www.teachitprimary.co.uk/ Primary teaching resources for Foundation, KS1 and KS2. Hundreds of interactive and editable resources for teaching Literacy and Language at primary level.
http://blocs.xtec.cat/ictponent/ A blog on the use of ICT in kindergarten and and primary english classes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dlp2ojGVFQ A nice ICT kindergarten movie.

Thank you for sharing seabiscuit. I believe using different tools to teach English is great. If it is something student likes in their daily lives, we are luckier. This way they learn unconsciously. The things they have learnt becomes permanent because they are using it.
Hi Merve,
You're very welcome. I think we should use flexible and innovative methods to teach. Or else, our classes may end up with questions like "Are you going to be my teacher, or just that textbook?" We can, of course, use textbooks or some traditional ways at times. But, there must be different and new ways. We shouldn't eat banana every day. Believe me blueberry is also delicious as well :=)
Hi Seabiscuit,
It's great to see more teachers integrating ICT in their lessons. Have you tried Voicethread, Glogster or Voki with your students yet? If you have, we would love to hear your ideas about these tools.
Özge,
Hi Özge,
Unfortunately, I haven't used these resources, yet. But, thanks for sharing anyway. I'm now going over them.

I absolutely agree with you seabiscuit. Using the same methods and tools will not work after some time even though they are brilliant stuff.
ICT is a must of today's education. Our principal responsibility is teaching communication and we can't ignore communication tools of modern days. Thanks for your comment.
