I love all kinds of fruit. There’s no doubt kids love eating fruit, too. Fruit salad is an activity I use with my 4th graders. There’re some color, cut, paste, stick activities to teach fruit vocabulary and instructions. But, I do something different instead of these traditional techniques. Here is what I do:
I buy fresh fruit and plastic plates and knives from a reliable supermarket. Banana, grape, apple and melon are necessary. You can add any fruit you like. I explain the students that we’re going to make fruit salad and eat it! This really motivates them.
Students watch the video and listen to the song Fruit Salad by the Wiggles. By the way, the Wiggles have great children songs. I teach the instructions with my gestures while they are listening to the song. We listen to the song a couple of times and students sing it .They also use their gestures while they are listening to the song.
Then, I read the instructions and students show the instructions by using their gestures. Next, we start making our fruit salad in groups of four. I read the instructions and students prepare fruit salad. At the end, I say “It’s time to eat our fruit salad” and we eat it!
It’s one of the most enjoyable and delicious activities I use in my classes. When kids listen and do something themselves, they learn more than we expect. Hope you’ll like this idea!

Hi Özge,
Honestly, I'm not a fan of such activities, either. Cause, I'm not a good cook and this's the only one I can do without messing up the classroom. :=) Glad you liked this idea!
Thanks,
