Back into teaching (5): Favourite sources

Although I’m prepared to put time into my lesson planning, time is always short, needless to say. So I’m always grateful for expert pointers, ideas for activities, and shortcuts.

Here are my favourite sources so far.

      - Teachers’ grammar books: ‘Practical English Usage’ by Swan, and ‘Grammar for English Language Teachers’ by Parrott

      - Extra practice activities: ‘700 Classroom Activities’ by Seymour and Popova; ‘Teaching Unplugged’ by Meddings and Thornbury; and ‘Five-Minute Activities’ by Ur and Wright

      - Supplementary games and mingles: the Macmillan Reward Resource Pack photocopiable books

      - Extra lesson ideas: Teaching English website

      - Re-usable materials: picture flashcards (photos from magazines of people, places, food, animals, things, paintings, etc.); various question prompters and 'Find someone who ...' s.

I have found ‘Learner English’ by Swan and Smith very useful too, for insights into some of my students’ particular difficulties with English.

As you can see, my list is fairly brief.  What are your favourite sources of extra help? Which would you recommend to me?

I am in favour of doing activities rather than exploring grammer so Iam usually in search of activity books. I will try to find your books on the internet. My favourites are Reward Resource Pack, Fun Class activities, New Interchange by Jack Richards. These are in my mind. We should keep sharing...
