      When teaching English, I remember my own learning trick in 4 other languages (a hobby). The best advice is to train the ear to listen to sentences or whole phrases, and not get stuck on words.

      Expanding sentences

      With small groups, a useful exercise is to write down a simple, basic sentence and ask the students to add as many adverbs and adjectives to make the sentence more "colourful".

      A simple activity to try is to print oout flash cards for the astrological signs. Then print out the "advice" from one of the many offered in papers or magazines.
