METHODOLOGIES AND CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
This refers to the necessary elements to carry out a class in a successful way. These elements include seating, eye contact, speech and voice, teacher talk, movement and body language, using the blackboard, class atmosphere, discipline and keeping class interesting among other important topics.
Seating arrangement is a very important topic because interaction activities would be easier to be carried out and it will allow you eye contact with all of your students which is one of the main ways to establish and maintain the students attention while you are talking.
Try to strike a balance by speaking slowly and clearly in order to facilitate understanding for your students, use body language to support unknown words or expressions, this is very useful when teaching a foreign language since it helps the students to understand concepts or ideas that can´t be easily explained with just words.
The use of the blackboard is really important because some people understand in a more effective way by visual activities, so you can use colors, pictures, but the blackboard must be used in an organized way.
Concerning to the class atmosphere, It is really important to let the students feel confident and comfortable, and this could be achieved by establishing a good rapport, memorizing their names, showing interest in their progress, having feedback sessions, and respond to what students say whether or not they say it right.
The teacher is responsible for keeping the class interesting, and that is why the teacher must create a nice classroom environment and there are lots of tips you can take into account, some of them are little details that can help your classroom to be a nice environment for students.
GUIDELINES:
1. Prepare. Improvised instructions are not as clear to your students as they are to yourself.
2. Make sure you have the class full attention. As a teacher you must find a way to keep them focused.
3. be brief. Most of the people have only a limited attention span so they won´t be able to listen to you for very long at maximum concentration.
4. Use examples. Is good to let them practice what they´ve learned using role play activities or some extra activities.
5. Get feedback. Check their understanding not asking them if they understood, but asking them to do something that could show you their understanding.
MONITORING
Something really important to understand is that students need motivation, and the teacher can give positive feedback to the students using lots of expressions, and the activities must be done by the students, the teacher must be only a supervisor, always congratulate the students and it is important to know when is the right time to make corrections, because since they are just starting to speak a foreign language, they may have lots of mistakes, and if you correct every single mistake they make they may feel bad and would feel disappointed, something that you can do is to write on a piece of paper, the mistakes they make and at the end of the activity or the class you can correct them together, so the students won´t feel afraid to participate in class.
