The adventure of teaching English in public schools in Córdoba, Argentina

      Hi everybody,

I've been a teacher of English in my country, Argentina, for over twenty years. I learnt it as a child because my mother went to an Irish boarding school ("Mater Misericordiae", Sisters of Mercy) in the city of Buenos Aires for five years. She became a teacher of English, a private teacher: she taught at home, I was one of her students.

Teaching English in public schools in the province of Córdoba is a challenge: the students have zero contact with the language: they don't listen to music in English, they don't "need" or "feel the need" to learn English: their parents and themselves work in jobs that don't recquire the knowledge of a foreign language. So, you have to be very creative to provoke in them the need to study English. For this reason, it is very important  the possibility "Teaching English" and the BBC give me to be in contact with new trends in the teaching of English, extra-materials, ideas for practice, tasks, etc.

                           Thanks a lot!!!!!
