Dear Bloggers,
The second term starts tomorrow in Turkey and I think with the new ideas from blogosphere, teaching would be more enjoyable, Thanks for lovely inspiration.
As teachers, we have plans in our minds before we go to the classroom to make the most of the teaching time. They aren’t the ones written somewhere else, they are just like routines of classes. At that point, I usually support the idea of warming up my classes for the first five minutes of the lesson. While warming up,
-You can just pick up one of the popular issues which might be related to their area of interest to make them talk about it. (it could be about famous singer, writer or popular movie, book…etc)
-If you teach some specific subject the day before, you can make revision of the words or tenses and maket hem use the new things in their sentences. (If you teach past tense the day before, you can ask your students what they did the previous week?
-Have your own questions related to your subject of the day in your pocket. (If you are going to talk about family members , you can ask your students about their family.)
What kind of warm-up strategies do you hav e for your classes?
I am looking forward to hearing from you all…..

Hi, oztrkozge
During the holiday, Blogathon was the best firiend for all.
"I usually support the idea of warming up my classes for the first five minutes of the lesson. While warming up," too
I'll share my blogathon experiences during that times..
thanks for your inspiration..
Just like you,
- talking about anything interesting that has happened recently
- talking about the topic that will be done that session
- simply asking them how they feel ( that starts usually lots of topics because they always have something to say :)
- once I was "down" and I asked them to tell me jokes (in English of course) they had trouble translating it but loved the opportunity to tell jokes
btw. it is a veeeery intriguing post title, you made me laugh! :))))
I usually focus on the students. I ask about the holidays, what they did, if they are happy, if they have been studying and so on.
Wonderful suggestions from you and the comments as always and here are my contribution to your lists.
how about warming them with a cheerful song and an activity related with the song.
Or I usually find some quotes on motivation put them on different places in the class and do a running dictation, then talk about the quotes and their expectations from the 2nd term.
Have a fabulous 2nd term
Cheers,
Eva
If the pp are to shy or too week to jump into an open discussion,
my favorites are "Satnd up Sit Down Comedy " and " Find Someone who"
The former, I'm sure you know, is to say things like "Anyone who went dancing during the vacation, stand up." You can vary the sentences to preteach some of the week's materials:
"Anyone who felt despondent over the break, sit down."
Then the pp make a few of their own; and the third stage -- only 3 minutes into the lesson-- is to go over and respond to something from the activity: "You got a present? Really? From whom?"
Find someone who starts as a handout: Everybody gets up and has to keep asking questions until they have "found someone who." -- who loves Adele's songs. Who played in the snow. -- who had a disappointment during the break. Who can tell one world news item "
The follow up is that everytime they find somebody, they ask for more information. " You bought new clothes? Great. What did you buy? Where? etc...
Both of these ease the class into discussion.
Getting warmer already?
Dear babakartal,
I think, the first 5 minutes is ideal for warm-up sessions. You are right, we have many nice examples from Blogathon to share with everyone :) thanks for your comment...
Dear Singerina,
Thanks for your contributions Singerina, I put my title on purpose and It is funny, I know :)
But the comments and new ideas under title are awesome :)

Dear nahla,
you are right, focusing on students is always good because for me, it sounds like more student-centered.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your ideas,
Best,
Thank you Eva for your great ideas,
I think, starting the lesson with a cheerful song makes the teacher motivated, as well. I liked the idea. Plus, Running dictation with inspirational quotes sounds real energizer,
Have a great 2nd term,
all the best,
