Here we are back to university, the second semester has begun today.I'm glad but yesterday I was at a loss.I face the same problem two times a year-on the eve of the first working day I torture myself with various ideas of what to do with my students when I see them for the first time after vacation.
I see we've got abundance of means, books,Internet resources but I cannot make my mind easily what topic to choose, what issue to discuss in order to make it logically connected with previously studied material and the topic we'll dwell upon afterwards. What is even more important I feel it should be something interesting,brain-friendly and funny to make my students' return to studies easy and quick. There are so many needs and requirements in my mind that I have to meet.I "suffer" but I cope as it seems to me.
Today I had a class with future journalists and I decided to touch upon the News issue as it corresponds to their profession and still it's a question of general interest. We discussed the recent and current world and national events, voted for the hottest piece of latest news, listened to BBC radio newsreel and worked with one of the units from Taboos and Issues "Is this News?".I'm satisfied and I see my students are as well.
And what do you opt to getting ready for the first class after vacation?
