Many ELT teachers see a move to teaching EAP as a step on the career ladder which might lead to a more secure job in a higher education institution and perhaps also a chance to do some research. So what is involved in making this step from general ELT to EAP and what help is out there for those who want to do it?

At the IATEFL conference this year, I was interviewed about the book I've just written with my two colleagues, Sue Argent and Jenifer Spencer, which is called EAP Essentials: a teacher's guide to principles and practice. In that interview I talked about what I thought were the main differences between these two kinds of English teaching and the challenges of teaching EAP.
