Hello, colleagues! Back to work again! I hope you’ve had great winter holidays and had a rest. In connection with it, I’d like to share an activity I usually do on the first working day after some interval. As I’ve already mentioned in previous blog I’m keen on using word games. That’s why on the first day of studies I ask my students which holiday they celebrated last. Answers sometimes vary. If we speak about winter holidays students, it can be New Year, Christmas or some other family occasion. Students aren’t so willing to talk about it. If you ask them questions, they usually give short answers. I ask them to write down this holiday down and to recollect the words that are connected with that holiday. Ideally the words should begin with the letters of the holiday. But sometimes it is quite difficult to find an appropriate word, you can make the task easier by saying that they can write down any word that contains the letter. It can be in the middle of the word or at the end of it. After that the students are expected to speak about the way they celebrated that holiday by making sentences with the words. It doesn’t matter whether you use this activity at the beginning or at the end of the lesson.
