Motivation our students is a challenge that we, teachers ,face every day.How can we motivate them? Unfortunately, there is no a magical formula. There is not a recipe.
Each student brings with them different learning styles, different interests and above all different life experiences making each classroom unique.
Personally, I believe that the key to learning is motivation. We can do it by showing and telling them that they can be successful not only in the classroom but also in life.
Some students seem to be enthusiastic about learning, but a lot of them expect their teachers to inspire, motive, stimulate and challenge them all the time.
If we encourage and show them that they are learning matters related to real life , we help them to be awareness of their language learning.
One of the major keys to motivation is the active involvement of our students. Classroom discussions, cooperative group learning, playing games, working together on assignments in small groups are great motivational ways to be successful.
Students love games. We all know how important they are in their life. Games should be central to our repertoire as it is believed that real learning takes place in a relaxed and positive atmosphere.
Playing a game provides a constant flow of accomplishments. Students play because it gives them pleasure. Play is an essential part of education. While students are playing they are learning how express themselves.
Play allows to express ideas, develop speech ,learn new skills, role play, use imagination etc.
Games give students a reason to speak, a chance to learn, revise and practise and an opportunity to enjoy learning all at the same time.
To sum up, we should take into account in our class planning since they contribute to the learners language development and proficiency. Games involve rules and competition, fun and relaxation, but most importantly they keep students motivated to learn.
