Imagine: You have just come to your classroom and what you see is several couples of absolutely indifferent eyes… They are looking at you and you hopelessly understand that you together with your “useful and exiting” subject do not fit in their interests and plans. Have you ever experienced something like this? Once I did. They were students of the 9th form. At first, I didn’t know what to do. Time passed and at the end of the year we seemed to be if not friends but at least good partners doing one business. What I did wasn’t something innovative or extraordinary. I just tried to become one of them with the same interests and hobbies. First of all, I was kind to them as our students sometimes think that teachers are severe and strict, no, I never gave them twos for not doing their home tasks, I changed those tasks from writing and reading to, for instance, searching info about subcultures that they really belonged to. We listened to rock at the lessons; we studied topics that were interesting to them. May be, I sacrificed all the valuable material that was supposed to be learned in the course book, but it all was for the sake of the students being attentive and involved and their wish to come to my classroom and see me… Well, may be, sometimes it is important to make such crazy choices…
