It's Saturday! Time to talk about books!

On Saturday's I have a regular column on my blog about books.

Books I read or movies based on books or musings on issues related to books.

I believe that in order for a teacher to remain sane, effective and cheerful time for hobbies is needed.

      I can't live without reading!

      Here's a sample

I found the book “The elegance of the hedgehog” by Muriel Barbery to be a book I couldn’t read.

The book is told in two voices – that of an unusual concierge in an upscale building in Paris and in the voice of a precocious 11 year old who lives in that building.  Each chapter alternates between the two. I could not deal with the parts told by the 11 year old and stopped reading the book.  I later heard people praising the book. This was about two years ago.

      Then came the movie! BRILLIANT!

I have excited things to say about every aspect of it – the acting, the pace in which the plot moves, the way those endless strings of words were expressed without being tiresome, the awesome visuals and the wonderful music! And it IS a worthwile story, just like people told me, but I didn’t find the book readable!

      I recommend it!

I remember my Dad reading us The Hobbit as a bedtime story.  I didn't understand all of it but I remember the bit about the dragon in the cave.  I should read it one of these days.

I've just finished Archer's new book.  The ending was predictable but I enjoyed it anyway.

      Hi Naomi,

Well done for getting going with the blog!

I'd like to see the film, it sounds very sweet; is it a French film? And did you go back to the book after watching it?

Looking forward to reading more of your blogs posts,

      Michaela

Thank you for gathering us on a different topic naomi:) I'm surprised to see that there is also a Turkish translation of that book. I think I'll buy it soon.

Here is one from me: "A good yarn" by  Debbie Macomber. I started it last week and finished it today. It's a great story connecting life and knitting. I strongly recommend it:)

      Have a nice Sunday:)

Hi Naomish.  I bought "Elegance" for my wife before anyone heard of it.  I thought

      it would be about wildlife.
